We have launched an initiative for biodiversity conservation and sustainability with social impact.

A commitment to sustainability
At Wakate, we understand that sustainability is not only an environmental commitment, it is also a social responsibility. Within that line of thinking, we believe that change begins at the heart of our communities and that true impact is achieved when people and nature thrive together. Therefore, continuing with our biodiversity conservation strategy, we implemented a reforestation plan that we will carry out with the “Women Coffee Growers Sowing Sustainability” program of the Coffee Growers Committee of Caldas, a program that is designed to empower rural women, protect nature and strengthen the social fabric in one of the most representative regions of Colombia: Caldas.
United for biodiversity and gender equity
By uniting with the Caldas Coffee Growers Committee we have taken a crucial step towards building a more sustainable future. This alliance not only reaffirms the commitment we have with the conservation of local ecosystems, but also puts women coffee growers at the center, giving them a leading role in the construction of stronger and more resilient communities.
The program brings together 18 women from the municipalities of Aranzazu and Neira, who will play a key role in the maintenance of more than 18,000 native trees and the planting of approximately 7,350 new plants. This work includes the collection and germination of seeds of native species, a process that helps revitalize local ecosystems, promoting the transmission of essential agricultural knowledge and traditions for future generations.
A project that flourishes on our farm
As part of the sustainability strategy of the GreenLand Group, the agro-industrial group that Wakate is part of, we continue with the objective of meeting our reforestation goals within the more than 1,299 hectares (more than 50% of the farm’s area) destined for the conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity. This project seeks to preserve and restore the forests of our farm, while empowering rural women through new employment and income opportunities.
Sustainability is a collective effort and the actions we take today are essential to ensure a more prosperous tomorrow. By providing these women with the necessary tools and resources, we are supporting their personal and professional growth, as well as strengthening their role as leaders within their communities. With this integrated approach, we know we can achieve a balance between environmental conservation and social development.
Conservation and social impact: a powerful synergy
The alliance between Wakate and the Caldas Coffee Growers Committee is an example of how agricultural sectors can work together to achieve sustainable goals and demonstrate that the commitment to the environment and social development is mutually empowering. Victor Manuel Henriquez Restrepo, manager of the GreenLand Group, assures that ‘The collaboration between sectors connected by agriculture, such as coffee growers and avocado growers, demonstrates our ability to generate strategic synergies that benefit both people and nature. We also generate jobs and training opportunities for women, strengthening their ties to the region.
Through this project, we are reaffirming our commitment to the conservation of the region’s biodiversity and contributing to the creation of a support network that promotes gender equity in the field. In turn, the women farmers who are helping to restore ecosystems are building a sustainable legacy to empower more women that is sure to have a positive impact on their communities for generations to come.
Six months to change lives
This project has an initial duration of six months, during which we will work hand in hand with the communities of the region to ensure the success of each phase: from land preparation to the planting and maintenance of the trees. Each stage of this program will be an opportunity to learn, collaborate and build a greener future.
One of the most exciting aspects of this initiative is its focus on community participation, because by involving women and their families we are not only planting trees, we are planting hope, togetherness and purpose. These actions demonstrate that sustainability is not just a goal, but an ongoing process that requires the active collaboration of everyone involved.
Through this program we are able to promote education and training in sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring that participating women receive immediate support and acquire skills that will enable them to continue to make a difference long after the project has ended.
Beyond the numbers: stories of impact
Behind every tree planted and every seed sprouted, there are stories of resilience, determination and hope. For many of the women involved in this program, this initiative represents an opportunity to improve their lives and those of their families. Stories that inspire us to keep going and remind us why we do what we do. At Wakate, we don’t just want to witness change; we want to be part of it.
Towards a greener and more equitable future
We are convinced that the actions we are taking today have the power to transform the future. With this intiative we seek not only to conserve biodiversity, but also to build stronger, more equitable and resilient communities.
Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond words. Through this partnership, we demonstrate that it is possible to balance economic progress with environmental and social responsibility. We will continue to work to promote projects that benefit communities, protect the environment, and create a legacy of which we can all be proud.
At Wakate, we know that true sustainability can only be achieved when we work together. Because when we join forces, we achieve much more than conserving biodiversity: we cultivate hope, equity and a future in which nature and people thrive in harmony.
